Are you a Direct Support Professional (DSP) looking to build your skills and grow your confidence? We have a new training program designed just for you – the Direct Support Professional University (DSPU)!
DSPU is a three-tiered training program built on best practices in the field. Each tier eventually will cover 16 core skills. Courses for part of the first tier are available now! These skills help you provide person-centered support and improve your daily work.
Courses are online and self-paced, so you can learn when it works for you. The skills you gain can be applied directly on the job. In addition to building confidence and supporting career growth, DSPU also can lead to recognition of your expertise within your field.
DSPU aims to strengthen the DSP workforce and the services provided across the system. This training:
- helps DSPs feel more prepared and stay longer at their roles,
- supports better outcomes, including improved progress toward Individual Service Plan (ISP) goals and more consistent, high-quality services,
- fosters a culture of continuous quality improvement.
DSPU was developed in partnership with California State University, Sacramento and the California Community Living Network. Courses are available through the online Employee Development, Growth, and Education (EDGE) website.
